MyChart FAQ


1.       What is WakeMed MyChart?

WakeMed MyChart is a free, secure online patient portal available to individuals who have been or are currently a patient of WakeMed or WakeMed Physician Practices. By signing up for MyChart, all WakeMed patients have the ability to:

Access portions of your medical record online, including test results, medication records, immunization records and more

WakeMed Physician Practices patients can also:

Pay Your Bill

Request prescription refills

Request appointments

Communicate electronically with your physician's office through secure messaging

2.       How do I sign up?

To be eligible for WakeMed MyChart, you must have been a patient of WakeMed or WakeMed Physician Practices. The first step in signing up is to secure an activation code.

If you were a recent inpatient, you received an activation code and instructions on how to sign up for MyChart on your After Visit Summary at discharge.

If you are a patient of WakeMed Physician Practices and have recently visited the practice for an appointment, your activation code and instructions were provided to you at discharge.

If you do not have an activation code and have been a patient of WakeMed or WakeMed Physician Practices, you can request one .

3.       My access code does not work. What should I do?

For your security, your activation code expires after 14 days and is only valid for one-time use. Please contact the location where the code was issued or to request a new code. You can also contact us by clicking here or call (919)350-2288 for assistance.

4.       Why do I need to provide an email address?

Your email address is required to activate your account. We will send emails to your personal email address to notify you that you have new WakeMed MyChart messages or that new information has been added to your chart. Messages sent to your personal email will not contain personal health information.

5.       Who do I contact if I have further questions?

Your Health Information

1.       What information is available in WakeMed MyChart?

WakeMed MyChart provides access to portions of your medical information. This includes a summary of your previous visits, lab results and past appointments. In addition, WakeMed Physician Practices patients can communicate directly with your healthcare team with secure messaging through MyChart. Patients can use secure messaging to request medical advice, ask questions about prescriptions or lab results, request a specialist referral and more. Our physician practices are committed to responding quickly to messages sent to us through WakeMed MyChart, and our average response time is very quick.

2.       I can't find my lab results. Why?

The vast majority of routine outpatient lab results will be automatically updated in WakeMed MyChart -- no more waiting for a phone call or letter. Patients will receive an email when new lab results are available. Due to the sensitivity of certain diagnoses, your physician may choose to communicate test results during an office visit or over the telephone. These lab results may not be immediately available in WakeMed MyChart. Additionally, labs processed for inpatients may not be included in MyChart.

Account Security

1.       I forgot my login or password. What should I do?

You may to recover your login or to reset your password. If you need additional help logging in, please contact (919)350-2288 or contact us by clicking here.

Please contact your WakeMed Physician Practices physician's office or call (919) 350-2288 if you believe your password has been compromised.

2.       Where can I update my personal information (e.g. home address, email, etc.)?

Once you log into your account, select the "My Medical Record" tab to navigate to the appropriate menu choice.

3.       How do I terminate my account?

To close a WakeMed MyChart account, please contact your WakeMed Physician Practices physician's office or call (919) 350-2288. You may also send a message to us by clicking here. Be sure to include the termination date and reason for termination in your message.

4.       Who can view WakeMed MyChart records?


WakeMed patients can access WakeMed MyChart records after you establish a login and password using your one-time use activation code. If you need an activation code, contact your WakeMed Physician Practices physician's office or to request one. Please note that activation codes expire after two weeks.

Your Loved Ones & Caregivers

WakeMed MyChart users can establish proxy or shared access themselves for loved ones and family members to help manage their health care. Establishing proxy access means that you are sharing your health information with another individual, so they will be able to see scheduled appointments, communication from providers, test results, visit notes and more. You can establish proxy or shared access by logging in to MyChart and selecting “Share My Record” from the menu page.

Your WakeMed Physicians and Care Providers

Your WakeMed physicians, care providers and financial specialists have access to portions of your WakeMed MyChart records.

5.       How secure is MyChart?

WakeMed MyChart is very secure. Your information is encrypted and only authorized users who have been verified through an activation process can have access.

6.       What is our privacy policy?

The privacy of your medical information is of utmost importance to us. to read our privacy policy.

7.       Can I access MyChart on mobile devices?

Yes. Once you have established a WakeMed MyChart account, you can gain convenient mobile access by using the mobile application, which is available for downloaded through GooglePlay and the iTunes app store. Once downloaded, select 'WakeMed MyChart' as your healthcare provider for access to your account.
